Stéphane Dufour is the Assistant Chief Statistician for the Census, Operations and Informatics Field at Statistics Canada. Mr. Dufour has been with Statistics Canada for twenty eight years, occupying various key positions, mostly as part of the collection and operations organisation, and leading several major transformational initiatives along the way. He became an executive in 2006, where he occupied the position of Director, Administrative Support Services. In 2008, Mr. Dufour was appointed as Director General, Collection and Regional Services Branch. In his role, he was accountable for developing the overall strategic framework for all collection and regional services, including overseeing management of the field collection and operations and regional dissemination programs of the Censuses of Population, as well as the management of a separate employer (Statistical Survey Operations). In 2012, Mr. Dufour was appointed Director General, Human Resources Branch and later that year, became the Assistant Chief Statistician responsible for Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer of the organisation. Most recently after a reorganisation in July 2017, Mr. Dufour became Assistant Chief Statistician of the Census, Operations and Informatics Field. Mr. Dufour is the co-chair of the United Nations’ High-Level Group for the Modernization of Official Statistics’ executive board and has been involved in several international cooperation projects. He and his team have provided technical assistance to countries in the development and strengthening of their national bureau of statistics. Mr. Dufour holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting) from the Université du Québec à Hull and has studied economics at the University of Ottawa. He has been married for 24 years and is a proud father of two children.
